Hello everybody...
SIGH..As usual,I am among the first people to comment, which can't be a good thing because it makes it hard for me to actually comment on others' views (which is more fun because you got to debate with other people). But never mind, I'll start off with my opinions.

First thing,I agree that Malaysians DO NOT take reading as their daily habits (which I think must be a crime in other parts of the world.)I think the main factor that leads to this scenario is that Malaysians are not nurtured with reading habits since they are babies.Yes,and I do really mean babies.

In facts,I think this habit should be applied since pregnancy. Pregnant women should read to their unborn babies daily. This will become a habit when the baby is delivered and will continue throughout their growth.

Parents play a vital role in developing reading habits among their kids, and they must do this by being a role model themselves. In other words, parents should read if they want to have children who read.

I take my family as an example. My father reads a lot.He reads when he's distracted, reads a lot more when he's angry and reads too much when he cannot sleep. His idea of shopping is BUYING BOOKS and his idea of hang-out place are BOOKSTORES.Those are the reasons why my siblings grow up loving books. We read before we go to bed, in trains, and even when we dine out!

Most people think that this habit should start when they are in schools, and the teachers are supposed to nurture this habit.I disagree. This habit should start at HOME, and then being continued at schools.Teachers help them to grow this habit and help them to pick the suitable reading materials but it is the parents who should plant the reading 'seed' in their kids.

The next move that we can make is to make more and more reading centres.I do not mean libraries, because I hate going to the library myself. Maybe we can establish more bookstores with 'we allow you to read here for free' concept like MPH and Kinokuniya bookstores. This allow the readers to actually sit there for hours and read books without having to pay. And compared to libraries, the surroundings are not so dull and quiet. It prevent you from sleeping!

More bookstores should be built in rural areas. I,for instant, was very shocked to find that only Popular bookstore exists in Berjaya Megamall in Kuantan!(and they call it a MEGAMALL).This is a very disagreeable condition,if you ask me and should be improved immediately.

I think that's all for now. I welcome my group members to comment my points and opinions.Thank you.

Organ donation: Don't let these 10 myths confuse you

Nearly 100,000 people in US city waiting for the organ transplant, but unfortunately only average 77people receive the organ transplant per day. There are still thousand more people waiting for the organ transplant.

It can be hard to think what happen to your body after donate the organ. There are ten myths that afects the people to donate the organ so here the correction on the myths.

Myth No. 1. If I agree to donate my organs, after my doctor remove my organ they won’t save my life but to save somebody else.
Reality. There will be doctor incharge of your care that nothing to do with transplanting and specialize to match your particular emergency.

Myth No. 2. Maybe the doctor will take my organ without make sure my death and sign the death certificate.
Reality. Although it is a popular topic in the tabloids, in reality, those people agree withorgan donation will be given more test to determine they are truly dead.

Myth No. 3. Organ donation is against my religion.
Reality. If you unsure with your faith’s position on organ donation ask a member of your clergy or check the federal Web site OrganDonor.gov, which provides religious views on organ donation and transplantation by denomination.

Myth No. 4. I'm under age 18. I'm too young to make this decision.
Reality. That's true, in a legal sense. But your parents can authorize this decision. You can express to your parents your wish to donate, and your parents can give their consent knowing that it's what you wanted. Children, too, are in need of organ transplants, and they usually need organs smaller than those an adult can provide.

Myth No. 5. I want my loved one to have an open-casket funeral. That can't happen if his or her organs or tissues have been donated.
Reality. Organ and tissue donation doesn't interfere with having an open-casket funeral. The donor's body is clothed for burial, so there are no visible signs of organ or tissue donation. For eye donation, an artificial eye is inserted, the lids are closed, and no one can tell any difference. For bone donation, a rod is inserted where bone is removed. With skin donation, a very thin layer of skin similar to a sunburn peel is taken from the donor's back. Because the donor is clothed and lying on his or her back in the casket, no one can see any difference.

Myth No. 6. I'm too old to donate. Nobody would want my organs.
Reality. There's no defined cutoff age for donating organs. Organs have been successfully transplanted from donors in their 70s and 80s. Let the doctors decide at your time of death whether your organs and tissues are suitable for transplantation.

Myth No. 7. I'm not in the greatest health, and my eyesight is poor. Nobody would want my organs or tissues.
Reality. Very few medical conditions automatically disqualify you from donating organs. The decision to use an organ is based on strict medical criteria. Medical professionals will determine whether your organ is suitable for donation or not.

Myth No. 8. I would like to donate one of my kidneys now, rather than wait until my death. But I hear you can't do that unless you're a close family member of someone in need.

Reality. You can donate a kidney through certain transplant centers no mather it is a distant family member friend or complete strangers. You can also do the test to make sure kidney donation is good will or not.

Myth No. 9. Rich, famous and powerful people always seem to have bigger change for the organ transplant and neglect those who've waited the longest or are the neediest.
Reality. The rich and famous aren't given priority when it comes to allocating organs. It may seem that way because of the amount of publicity generated when celebrities receive a transplant, but they are treated no differently from anyone else. In fact, the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), the organization responsible for maintaining the national organ transplant network, subjects all celebrity transplants to an internal audit to make sure the organ allocation was appropriate.

Myth No. 10. My family will be charged if I donate my organs.

Reality. The organ donor's family is never charged for donating. The family is charged for the cost of all final efforts to save your life, and those costs are sometimes misinterpreted as costs related to organ donation. Costs for organ removal go to the transplant recipient.

After the correction on the ten myths on organ donation there seems that we should take the initiative to donate the organ. When we donate the organ we can give the second change for those people to live.We should also encourage the people beside us to do so.

Do not worry, Putut! You are still able and allowed to make comments on my piece of writing. Haha...

“You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture.
Just get people to stop reading them.”
-Ray Bradbury-

Books have been, are and always will be important to us. Books symbolize knowledge and knowledge is what drives the growth of a nation. Yet books are becoming ever more unpopular as the habit of reading decreases. This is a trend that we see all around the world but which is especially bad in our country. In fact, it would probably be more accurate to say that the habit of reading never existed among Malaysians.

Why are Malaysians so reluctant to pick up a book and read? Many might argue that with our increasingly hectic schedule and busy lifestyle, we just do not have the time to sit down and read a book. This may be true in some cases but the simple and rather sad fact is, most of us just despise reading. Many of our children are not brought up to love books whether it is at home or school. They then carry this to their adult life and their own families and so the cycle continues. Emilie Buchwald, a writer, once said that children are made readers on the laps of their parents. Unfortunately, parents today just do not have the time to read to their young children. At school, teachers only emphasize on the importance of reading text books and nothing else. Children are never exposed to the joys of reading and end up thinking that reading is boring as the only thing they ever read is their school texts. What’s worse, as mentioned by A.Kathirasan in his article, the prices of many books are too high in this country. With the increasing living costs, even an avid reader would think twice before deciding to buy a book, let alone someone who does not read often.

It is clear that if we are going to reverse this disturbing trend in our society, we have to start from the very roots of the problem. The love of reading is something that should be instilled from a very young age or else Malaysians will never discover the wonders that a book can hold.

Hi everyone...
To talk about reading habits among Malaysians, i think the habits are quite being unfamiliar among the community of Malaysians.

Children nowadays are rarely tends to read book whenever they have time to spend. they are actually tends to use the time in more interesting activity by looking for entertainment like watching televisions, hanging around with friends and so on.

Parents play a big role in the job of encouraging their children to develop interest of reading. They have to be wise in the way how they want to do it. One of the usual example is bringing the children regularly to the public library. Children tend to follow what the elderly doings, so we as an adult have to show our interest in reading habits. Like the US, the government had launched on the campaign 'children see, children do'(or something like that ).

Also, the education system nowadays are only focus on the textbook reading an exam oriented system which causing the pupils easily to feel bored and less enjoyable, as the textbook created for them to pass the exam as they think. Teachers should propose the pupils in reading in more relaxing books like the story books, magazine, and newspaper and so on, as long as it is beneficial. Schools should not abandon the progress in encouraging students to read.
It is not peculiar/ weird to see in the newspaper that students are not aware of present issue and does not know the leaders of the nations.

Just look at other country like Japan, US or UK. Their community has developed reading interest. We not feel weird to see that anywhere there are always people reading, in the busses or waiting for the busses.

i also think that the community should be exposed on the important of reading. Government or NGO should cooperate to fix the problem of lacks of interest in reading.

Last but not least, I want to encourage my friends to develop the habits of reading. Although I am not a person who really love to read, I hope I can be the one among you guys that have achieve the bookworm state…… ha ha ha!

Hi, my friend...First of all, wish the Muslim Friend and pn.Faridah selamat hari raya and all my fellow friend all the best in everything...

How much do Malaysians read? According to the last National Literacy Survey carried out in 1996 by the National Library, the average Malaysian reads only two books a year! This is an improvement compared to an earlier survey in 1982 which revealed that an average Malaysian read a mere page or two a year. The poor reading habits among Malaysians was common knowledge but, in true Malaysian fashion, it took an official survey to jolt the education sector that something had to be done fast.

haiz...reading habit among malaysian already drop year by year. The teenager nowadays no like reading book, they will truancy(ponteng class)and join gangsterism, play game at cyber cafe, and do the thing of violating the law.

so,parent, teacher, school and gourvement have responsible to improve reading habit among the malaysian especially teenagers because teenagers nowadys is leader in the future.

i think parent must play a important role to cultivate their children reading.Firstly, parent must being a role model that reading book in front of their children.Beside that, everyday parent maybe can find time reading book or review homework with their children.During saturday or sunday or 1 days of a week, parent will bring their children go public library to borrow book and reading book.Parent also can bring their children go bookshop or bookstore buy suitable book for their children. For example, story book, reference book, fiction novel and so on.

Teacher also play a vital role in developing reading habit among student.Teacher maybe can use more interesting teaching method to atracting student. Malaysian schools should encourage their students to borrow and read books during school holidays; this will improve their knowledge and writing skills.Beside that, school also can have some competition about reading. For example, quiz, writing essay competition and speech competition.

The Education Ministry came up with the NILAM (Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca or Sapphire) programme in 1998 to nurture the reading habit among school children. In this reading project, students are awarded marks for the number of books they read and the Education Ministry has suggested an award ranking system for primary and secondary schools. This NILAM program can encourage student nowadys study more book, develope more knowledge.

Studies in the past have shown that the exam-oriented educational system in Malaysia promotes rote learning and studying among student. The Education Minster, has frequently commented that most students read only to pass exams and do not read for pleasure. So gourvement has been implementing many projects aimed at improving students’ reading ability in the country. Reading skills are important through out our lifespan, particularly as we respond to new demands and changes in jobs and reading for pleasure has been found to improve reading comprehension, writing style, vocabulary, spelling and grammatical development.

For Malaysia to be a developed nation by 2020 we need our fellow Malaysian to have strong knowledge of wide subjects and that can only be realize through habits of reading.
thx...

Based on the article that we read,it is serious found that most of malaysian do not like to read books. The findings of a National Library surveys, showed that there is only 13 per cent of 27 million malaysians read books.Actually, reading got a lot of benefits. According to Stadler, reading will develop the source of word of children in language. Beside that, reading also will provide a base(background) for the grammatical efficiency in both language and contribute to the thinking to language.Mostly malaysians especially student read books only for the purpose to pass the exam with flying colour. Therefore, they do not realize that reading books also has fun. They should spend some time to read some story book, beneficial magazine and newspaper. In this way, they not just improve their grammar but also have an enjoyable time during reading. They will not think that reading is a boring activity.By reading newspaper, one can get knowledge that cannot be learned from school. This later help student not just excellent in academic only.

Reading is very important for a country.By reading, malaysians will be knowledgable, then our country will be progess and achieve the "wawasan 2020".We should not use busy life as a reason to stop reading. If we really have the heart to read, we will never say we have no time to read.Even we are very busy, we will still spend some time to read. This is because we know that reading is a way to make one "rich" in term of mental and knowledge.

There are many way to cultivate a lifetime reading habit. Firstly, you should set time for reading and always bring books along with you. When you want to read book, then you can read it.Secondly, you should make a lists of good books that you want to read.Good books will make us get a lot of knowledge. Thirdly, you should find a quiet place to read and reduce usage of television and internet, then you can concentrate on your reading.Parents should read books to their child to cultivate reading habit on their child when their child still young. Lastly, one must always go to library to borrow books or go to bookshop to buy books. This will encourage them to read a lot of books.

Hope in the future, all our malaysian have reading habits.

Hi everyone...
Luckily i am able to post my comment before i back to KTSN !!

When i saw the phrase " There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them" written by Joseph Brodsky in the article, i am 100 percent agree with what he said.

When we talk about the reading habit among the Malaysians, it is a kind of sad. Although Malaysia has a fairly high literacy rate and a good educational system, the reading habit has not developed as it should. Why? I think the main reason is the Malaysian do not like to study.

At here, i would like to make a comparison that prove the Malaysians do not like to read. If you are going to somewhere by trains, do you ever find or see the Malaysians taking a book and read along the journey? Yes, there might be some people doing so. Somehow, it is rarely. What make me respect to the foreigners that travel to Malaysia is i always see there is a book on their hand wherever they go to. Their mean to read is very high.

Most of my friends that post the comment here said that the low reading habit in Malaysians especially the children or teenagers is due to the parents and teachers in school. Most of my friends agree with the fact that both parents and teachers play a vital role to inculcate the reading habit. I am not saying they wrong, but i think we should not pass the buck to them. We, ourselves do have the responsible. I think all of us are mature enough to decide what we should do. Ask yourself, when you go to the shopping mall, most of the time you spend is at where? Do you spend most of your time at the bookstores. Seldom, right? What i trying to say here is actually whether we want to read or not, it is on our hand, we can decide it. Please do not blame the parents and teachers of not playing a role model by reading in front of you. Even though it is true, but we still can read by our own right? It should not be something like parents do not read, then it is right for us not to read.

The definition of reading is not just mean to read a book like most of friends mentioned here but it also mean to read other materials like newspapers as the best example, i think. Most of us do not read newspaper frequently. As a result, we are not up to date and do not know what is happening now in the world.

" The Education Ministry came up with the NILAM (Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca or Sapphire) programme in 1998 to nurture the reading habit among school children. In this reading project, students are awarded marks for the number of books they read and the Education Ministry has suggested an award ranking system for primary and secondary schools. This NILAM program can encourage student nowadys study more book, develope more knowledge." is what SK lee mentioned in his comment. I do not think that NILAM programme is a ideal to foster reading habit especially in the school children. In some cases, it really works but i think most of the cases, it fail. This is because in some schools, the teachers will set a quantity of books that students must read each month. Therefore, the students feel that they are forced to read and they do not know the pleasure of reading. So, this makes the NILAM programme fail to success.

Reading can help us to gain a lot of knowledge that actually we cannot gain from the textbooks in school. That is a lot of knowledge outside that we do not know. By reading, we can improve ourselves and know more things in this world. Hence, the government, non-government organisation (NGO), schools, parents and we, ourselves should play a role to bring up the reading habit among the Malaysians. The method should be effective and work.

That is all about my opinion. Thanks

Hi everyone…
So,our topic been discussed right now is reading habits…and this is my opinion through this topic…
I’ve tried to find some information about this issue.. and I would like to share this information with everyone..this came from the blog named Bibliobibuli. He managed to get this information from Starmag article and also from The Malay Mail:

#More than half of the 60,441 odd Malaysians surveyed read less than seven pages a day.

#Those 10 years and above read about two books a year! (The figure excludes text books for students and books that are work-related for working adults.)

#Also shocking is that most of those who read books and magazines, read less than three hours a week.

#The older we get, the less we read.*

#The survey also showed that 55 per cent of those aged 10 to 24, read books, compared to 39 per cent within the 25 to 56 age bracket. Only six per cent are those aged 57 and above.

#Reading is not even the favourite pastime of Malaysians as most prefer to watch television and video.

#The reading habit looks to be a thing of the past as the survey also unearthed the trend among the young who read only to acquire knowledge.

#Most Malaysians read in Bahasa Melayu, followed by English. Reading in Jawi comes third and finally, Mandarin.

#About 56 per cent of the respondents of the study were city dwellers and 44 per cent rural Malaysians.

#Of the total number of respondents, 60 per cent were aged 10 years old and above and 99.9 per cent of them had formal education.

But still then, we must not totally 100% believe in this article.

Now, let we go back to my own opinion on this topic. First of all, let we take a look of what reading means. Reading is an aspect associated with literacy. However, the reading process is not simple in its nature. It does not merely involve recognizing a single character and pronouncing it correctly or to recognize and pronounce a few characters that are arranged in a particular manner, but more importantly it is the ability to understand the meaning of these arrangements.

So, reading is actually something very important to us but yet the Malaysians reading habit is very poor. I have to admit here that I am one of those who have a poor reading habit. In my own opinion, the reason why I as a Malaysians did not like to read a book is because of our own mind setting. We have set in our mind that reading a boring activity. We would rather play a game or watching DVD’s than reading our text book. This mind setting should be avoided by others.

The next reason why Malaysians did not make a reading as their habit is because that they do not been teach from the earliest stage of their life on the Importance of reading. Their parents did not teach them to make a book as their good friends. It is very rare in Malaysia to see people reading a good night story to their children. So, most of Malaysians learn how to read at their kindergarten and not at home. It is not to put the blame on the parents but it is a well known fact that parents play a role in raising an attitude of their children.

Last but not least, I hope that the Malaysians including me would change their reading habit by makes a reading as one of their hobbies and also that the parents will develop the reading habits among their children from the earliest stage. Thank you.

Hi everyone..
Fazliza here..
Once again, sorry for being late..

Reading is one of the important habits that we have to put it by heart in ourselves. Without it, we cannot survive as a successful person. If we realize it, we cannot avoid to not reading everywhere we go. Because nowadays there too many reading opportunity that sometimes become free of charge of opportunity such as free newspaper in our library, free pamphlets and internet material. Since realizing there are many reading opportunity, we should expect the number of our reading population to increase.

But, based on study disappointedly I said that our Malaysian is not very interested to having reading habit. This is because, some of them more prefer to listening and watching rather than reading. So, they are more interested in television and the radio. In addition, the internet, computer games also took up a lot of people’s leisure time.

Also, maybe our people still do not realize the advantages of having this habit

There many advantages of reading such as the habit of regular reading helps us develop a good vocabulary. Frequent reading enables you become alert and zealous about new words. Some of the regular readers develop the habit of referring the dictionary. Each and every time they come across an unknown word, they try to find out what can be its possible meaning by the context. If they cannot figure it our, they refer to the dictionary.

Since being the one who realize the reading advantages, we should be the person that encourage not necessary to all Malaysians, but at least to our family and people around us. I hope I could be the one soon.
Thank you.

Hey everybody..
To Madam Faridah..sorry for being late...(^_^)

To be honest,i have to say that Malaysians have poor reading habits and most of them do not like to read.
it has been proved by some of our friends here like ET,SK and choon that have included some analysis about the percentage of people that read books in their
comment.

Yeah, maybe people out there did not agree with me and they say that they love to read. But what kind of books that they read?
comics?fashion magazine?Or maybe the gossip one,'Mangga'?Yes, they have read but i think that kind of reading material is not suitable for us in order to be someone that is knowledgeable.

Reading is very important for us as a human being as this is a very effective way for us to gain knowledge and improve ourselves.I guess very few of us that like to read newspaper. So i think that we should improve, try to read newspaper as it will give us a lot of benefits.

It's not just newspaper, but we have lots more reading material in the bookstores and even in the library.Like the motivational books, encyclopedias, historical books and many more that can provide us a lot of informations and knowledge.

In my opinion,i feel that reading habits should be developed since we were small.I agree with p00-3
that have said reading habits should start at home and followed by school.Yes,Eugene,we cannot just blame our parents if they did't read.We still can read by ourselves since we are mature enough to think what is the best for us.But I think parents can be a good role model for their chidren. When they see their parents read, i believe that they will read too. This is because, at a very young age, children tend to follow what adults do.So i think this is a very good way in developing this habit.I'm not blaming parents but i believe that we can improve this by giving some advice and idea for other parents in developing reading habit for their children.

In school, in order to encourage students to read in the library i think that library has to be interactive and comfortable, so that student will enjoy inside there and automatically induce them to read in the library.

That's all from me.Thank you.

hi everyone,,
Mm,,first of all, I'm sorry for being late to give my response to our new topic. So, lets continue in giving my opinion about reading habit.

I think the best way to encourage reading among Malaysians is to enhance newspapers. in fact, newspapers are so powerful, people read newspaper everyday since people want to know what's going on everyday. So, if they are written nicely, people will tend to read more. rather than advertisements on every page.

Just what puteri says earlier,Malaysian do not take reading as their daily habit.
i think there are few reasons that cause Malaysian not to read books.
One of them are some book maybe quite expensive for them. Most of all like English book and all that which it is been import from certain country. So, people may feel that it is wasting to buy them as they just want to read it just once. this kind of feeling shouldn't happen because as we know, in a book there's lot of knowledge. it's not enough for us to read them just once. morover, the price is more expensive since it got more quality compare to ordinary book. it may be resistant to water so that our book will stay nice for long time.

Some of us also very lazy to go to library. in this situation, i think parents play a big role in influencing their child to go to library.
why not them self whos the one ask their child to follow them to library. so, by that, parent first should make reading as their habit then their child also can inherit it.

the book publisher also play their role in making the book look more interactive. some people judging the book by its cover. so, by making the cover look interactive, this can make people more interested to read it. but it is more better if the content great than its own cover.

i think thats all from me for now,
thank you~

hi..
again I think i am the last to post my comment here....
to many Malaysians reading is still not a habit.
i strongly believe in that(especially among Malays. sorry no offense)
so, i must say that i (sadly) agree with the author of article that we are discussing.
many factors leads to lack of reading habit among Malaysians.
1)no initiative for the youngs to read
there is no point during the old to read... its already hard if it is not being build since young...
here is where parents can play roles to increase the awareness among their children to read.
lets take american people for example;the parents will take few minutes to read story books to their children before going to bed....
this shows their determination to embed reading habits into their children...
this is kind of example that we need to follow (not those kind of clothes that they wear!)..
to those who already doing such stuff i hope u don't stop and keep the spirit high.
2)build a better environment for people to read....
nowadays even the library is not comfortable enough to stay for along hours.....
as for me i dislikes to stay in library for a long period of time is because it is too cold. it as if they don't know how to adjust the air conditioner.
seriously, even my father (a lecturer) now rarely go to library because of its coldness.
other reason is that library create tense environment and normally labeled as a hang out place for bookworms only....
let's work together to change this perception..
library is a place where a lot of information were gathered and only await to be harvest by the people..(and please do something about the air conditioner!!!)
3)the school....
please 'program nilam' that was held at most of school fail and not enough to increase reading habit in the young Malaysians.

held something more effective to increase awareness of reading. i mean it!
students no longer prefer to read books to gain knowledge but only read notes in order to pass exam only...

Malaysians, if you watch, when they are free, while waiting for cabs, bus, lrt or simply waiting fr other things do not have the tendency to read. they just sat there and wait, even for hours.
i hope this attitudes will changes for the sake our country in the future.
i'll look forward to see the new Malaysian's reading habit in the future!!!
let's bring the spirit of 'Malaysia Boleh' into this.
thank you.

Hi hi..
I'm SAM.. I'm here to comment about the reading habits article that has been given to me long time ago. First of all, sorry for my late response as usual. We can't deny that reading habits in Malaysia are really low compare to other countries. This problem can be justified by many aspects ranged from education to reading environment as I can see in the related article. I think the education module of Malaysia is the main reason that contributed to this problem. Reading habit is something that should be applied from early age. Textbooks are the only book that recommended by teachers for the students to read for during leisure time. This shouldn't be any problem for the students to get a good result if they follow it. However, I can say that it kills the reading habits of Malaysians. Reading habits should arise from one's curiosity to read new books continuously instead of read the same books continuously. This will cause one starting to hate the books in early age. It reflects what was mentioned in the article that many children see books as evil goblins out to ensure they fail in tests and examinations.

Second, passion for reading is important to create reading habits. Passion for reading comes from pleasure of reading. But many other things come before pleasure of reading. For example, cost of books, reading environment in early age, books accessibility, etc. These constrict the reading habit to be created and these are what should be solved to create reading society.

I think the time not allow me to write further as it's the time for me to say good night to everyone. Thank you.

Hello everyone....
I am raihan bt abdullah.
Now, I want to give my opinion about ‘Reading Habits Among Malaysian’. I am agree with my friend that Malaysian do not like to take reading as their daily habits. Why it is happen in our country? I think it is because we are not start reading since we are young.
Parents also did not support their children to take a reading as a daily habit. Other than that, they are more like to do something that do not give any benefit for themselves than reading. For example, among of us like to spend our time with playing computer games, watching television, shopping, and others. The price of books also can influence some people do not like to buy it. They thought better they buy play station or anything than wasting their money by buying an expensive book.

As we are know, many students in our country do not like to read and they are only read when they are going to sit the examination. They feel reading is something bored and do not give anything for them. They also feel ashamed when take a reading as their habit because their friends will laugh for them and their friends will called them as “scheme student”.

So, how to make reading as our daily habits? First, parents should teach their children to take reading as their daily habits since they are young. Parents also can make a mini library in their house to make easy for their children to get the books. They can also take their children to the government library or to the bookstore such as MPH Stores, Times, Popular or Play Less Books to find books. They also can make books as a presents for their children. So, by doing this, their children will know that reading is important for them. Secondly, schools also play an important role in produce students that want to make reading as their habit. Many activities can be carrying out in the school such as campaign, reading contest, quizzes, NILAM Program and others. So, students will make a reading before they attend to the contest or quizzes. Thirdly, we can make reading as our hobbies. We can spend our time during waiting someone or bus by reading books, magazines or novels.

Many benefits we will get by make reading as our hobby. The benefits are we can spend our time with doing something good that are not wasting our time, we also can get extra knowledge by reading newspaper or we also can improve our vocabulary very well. After study or working, we also can release our tension by reading novels or magazines. So, it is proved that reading is very important to us especially to students.

Lastly, I hope we as Malaysian should make reading as our daily habit because it does not give any bad for us. Parents also should encourage their children to read more. Thank you.

Assalamualaikum and hai to all bloggers...

'Reading habits among malaysian',one of the interesting issues that can be discuss here.

In my opinion,we cannot deny that Malaysia's citizen does not really love to make reading habits as their hobby. But, there are some improvement in percentage and number of people that love to read nowadays rather than previous years. This show that the malaysian nowadays are more aware with the significant of reading.

This habit must be manured not only among students in primary school, secondary school, collegues or universities but also to all malaysian entirely regardless their ages, occupations, status, education levels etc.

In addition, there are a lots of sources that can be as the reading material such as jurnal, ensiclopedia, story books, magazines, novels, newspapers and so on.

There are also a lot of bookshops like MPH, POPULAR etc that existing in shopping mall or private premises that can make us easier to find and buy those kind of reading materials. So, there is no reason why we can't make reading as one of the habit in our life.

In order to blossom this habit, each people must have effort to make it become reality. For example, parents must play an important role to make their chidren love this habit. Just like what been written by pOO-3, parents should keep this habit in their children since in their early age or even during the pregnancy time.

Parents can buy a colourful story book that have been written in simple words for them. The reason are to make the kids be attracted to read it because of the colourful pictures and easily to understand and pronounce each of the words.Later on, they will love it by themselves and as they grow up, they will choose what types of reading material that they want by their own.

Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca (NILAM),is want of the programme that been done by the goverment in primary and secondary schools in order to influence students to love reading. And from what I see during my school time, this programme was succeeded and majority of student being participated in this programme.

Moreover,we also can have lots of benefits from reading, such as ,we can get and know more informations, new news, world's facts etc. Besides,by reading we can fill up our leisure time and it also can help us to relax our mind and reduce the stress while working or studying.

Hmm, I think I need to stop here.
That's all from me...(^.^)/
see you soon.

To be honest, I don't like to be late but sometimes things may get out of your hand as a result of numerous unexpected matters occur coincidently.

Problem

With schooling or working take most of their times, Malaysians nowadays seldom join a library or read books. There are other modes of entertainment and television or malls seem to be a large source contributed to this unhealthy situation.

Introduction

Learning which starts right from birth needs to acquire knowledge about various phenomena and understanding them. No matter who are you and where you are, the more you read, the more you learn.
Reading, the art of interpreting printed and written words is one of the most effective processes of conscious learning.
As we all know, the education nowadays involves the habit of personal investigation. The art of personal investigation requires self study to be followed by self thinking and analysis. Self study, as the term suggests, reading at one’s own accord requires a habit which is technically known as reading habit.
The reading habit is best formed at a young impressionable age in school, but once formed it can last one’s life.

Reading Materials

Newspaper
Text books Magazines Story books Poetry Comics Journals Novels Drama

Suggestions

So, in order to cultivate the habits of reading from the childhood, we should:
1)Reading bed time stories to kids are a way to cultivate reading habits in a child.
2)Create an environment conducive to reading, so that the children are comfortable.
3)Show them the pictures while teaching phonics to the child as reading makes a person a good listener and builds vocabulary.
4)Request teachers to encourage the students to read more books, magazines and newspapers regularly.
5)Make an excellent gift by using book. For instance, during birthdays, diwali or New year, gifts can be wrapped well over books.
6)Request parents to subscribe to good newspapers and magazines for their homes matching the tastes of their children.
7)Request schools to organize debate and essay competitions, story hours and so on at regular intervals so that we can generate reading interest and information gathering habit.

Conclusion

Ladies and gentlemen, reading is an intellectual action which is possible only if a man has formed a habit of reading and practising it since childhood.
Therefore, parents and teachers should encourage the students to improve their knowledge by reading and provide them the necessary guidance as to what to read and how to read.

Before I end my speech, I would like to share some of my own reading rules with your all, it is not a neccesity to follow it, but just as a reference. Thanks for viewing, my charming audiences.

1)Don’t read books unless they have been recommended to you.
2)Always carry a book with you. Some of the best reading time is when you are waiting at somewhere.
3)Read only when you can focus. If you could not tell what have you read just now, please stop, it was a waste of time.
